Lost ep 3/4/09

OMG!

I can’t believe they (Juliet, Sawyer, Jin and Miles and where was Daniel 3 years later?) lived 3 years in the 1970’s as normal Dharma employees!  That was hysterical.

I’m sorry it totally was.

We all knew Sawyer/Jim was a nice guy underneath, but a security expert and flower bringing boyfriend?  Hmmm.  He and Juliet are kinda cute together though in their 70’s bungalow.  It will be interesting to see what happens now that the Oceanic 6 are back on the island.

Which…if they are back in the 70s with the rest of the people, and a white flash brought them there but the last flash presumably brought Sawyer et al. to a point 3 years ago…how did they all end up in this spot in this time together?  I don’t understand that.

No new ep next week…guess I’ll have to find other things to watch until the 18th.

Mini Reviews from this Weekend

Hola!

I managed to watch a few things this weekend and I’m not in the mood to write full reviews for each so I thought I’d bunch together some mini reviews.

He’s Just Not That Into You

Good movie.  Nothing fantastic.  I did not read the book so I’m wondering on how it compares but the movie was entertaining.  I liked the different types of relationships (marriage, looking for marriage, long-term, happily single); the variety was nice.  This sounds rediculous but I didn’t buy Scarlett Johanson with Bradley Cooper, no chemistry.  But overall I enjoyed it.

Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (DVD)

It was good, fine.  The whole storyline around the gum nearly made me gag though so it is affecting my opinion.  The music was awesome and Kat Dennings and Michael Cera were cute.

Penelope (DVD)

This is my recommendation for the weekend.  A sweet fairytale story about loving yourself for who you are.  Maybe I just needed it this weekend.  That sappy cutsey movie.  I liked it.
Taking Chance (HBO)

Kevin Bacon stars in this made-for-tv movie about escorting a soldier’s body home for burial during the early years of the Iraq war.    Sad, have your kleenex on hand movie.  Very touching, very good.

Hope you all got to watch something good this weekend.  Let me know if I should add something to my Netflix list.

Handbag or hat?

Hi.  My name is KT and I am a handbagaholic.

Hi KT.

It is true.  I own many handbags.  Some cheap.  Some not so cheap.  It is an addiction.  If I don’t buy one every 3 months or so I go through withdrawal.  I have small ones and large ones.  I own colors from brown, black, red, green, and blue to  yellow, white, peach, and pink.  Clutches, hobos, box/structured, and tote.  I’m so bad.

I even own a purse lamp.

However, I can honestly tell you that this.  This handbag hat is the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen.  I’m sorry Isaac Mizrahi, I like your stuff…usually.  But this is wrong.  You know how in some cultures women carry baskets of laundry or water on their heads?  THAT is what this reminds me of.  Hi this is my handbag and I’m going to carry it on my head.

Does that make it a headbag instead of a handbag?

Where do I put my lipstick?!

Lost ep 2/25/09

I love Lost!

I can’t however write 6 pages of analysis on one episode like the experts on EW.com or TVguide.com.  Hats off to those writers/reviewers.  They are amazing.  I can only offer my quick thoughts on the ep from last night and reiterate that I love this show!

Episode specifics (spoilers) ahead…

We knew John Locke wouldn’t stay dead.  If he is indeed special like everyone keeps telling him and the island can bring Jack’s dead father back to life then why not bring John back to life.  Made sense to me.  It was interesting to see everyone refuse to go back.  We knew they all did but it was still interesting to see the initial rejections.  John surprised me by honoring Jin’s wish to keep Sun away and also to let Walt stay back seeing as he has been through so much already.  That was a new side of such a determined John.

We know John committed suicide, he left Jack a suicide note.  What we didn’t know was that Ben convinced John to not commit suicide.  He literally talked him off the cliff (or in this case the table in the hotel room he was ready to jump off ).  Since we are talking about Ben, you just KNEW he was up to something.  It’s Ben!  He is the King of Manipulation.  The Leader of Lies.  The Swami of Selfishness.  John let slip that Faraday’s mom, who was actually in LA, was the key to getting back.  Ben didn’t know that.  That was all he needed.  Then he killed John.  I was so caught up in the ep that I forgot this was about John’s death.  Totally surprised me when it happened.  I LOVE when a show does that.  :)

I can’t wait for next week!

And the Oscar goes to

Every year (for the last 8 anyway) I’ve seen all 5 best picture nominees before the Oscar telecast.  Some years I get them watched early and others I cut it close (11:40am showing of Benjamin Button on Oscar day).  I love watching the show and seeing the winners and checking out the fashion.  So here (whether you want it or not) are my thoughts on this year’s Oscar telecast.

The Movies:   After seeing all 5 noms I personally liked Slumdog Millionaire the best.  It wasn’t the typical Oscar nom, it wasn’t so depressing and dramatic and bloody.  It had all that but in a less over-powering amount I guess.  I also really liked The Reader and Frost/Nixon.  Milk was a good story but not a best picture and Benjamin Button was way too long (but great visual effects).

The Red Carpet:  I am not a fashion expert but I know when someone looks ridiculous.   Beyonce looked ridiculous.  As did Jessical Biel in that white bib thing.  And just a note to Evan Rachel Wood…you are TOO pale to wear ivory.   Your face and skin where the same color as your dress and I couldn’t tell where one started and the other ended.  And Sarah Jessica…really? It looked like a princess Halloween costume.

So for those of you who didn’t look good you might want to hire the fashion advisors away from the ones who looked good.  Those people who got it right: Kate Winslet, Frieda Pinto, Angelina Jolie and the winner of the fashion evening…Anne Hathaway.  Beautiful

The Show:  Hats off to Hugh Jackman.  Great opening number.  However you slipped and fell with that ode to Broadway later in the show.  I usually have an opinion about the winners, there is always someone that wins that I just don’t agree with but this year was different.  No winner disappointed me.  A first for everything I guess.

Final thoughts: Go see Slumdog Millionaire if you haven’t already.  It is a great movie.

But I’m going to give it to you anyway

Hello!  Welcome.  I realize that in the grand scheme of things, my opinion doesn’t matter, but I’m going to give it to you anyway.  That’s the purpose of this blog…to share my opinions and reviews and comments on movies, TV, books, pop culture, theater and restaurants.  I might add some additional thoughts on general world news or my philosophy on general life experiences.

Nothing is really safe.

I will regularly comment on the crazy things I see on the street or the odd occurrences that seem to happen to me in public restrooms.  (Seriously!  I’m a magnet for this stuff.)  It is a catch all.  I figure if I do this, than really I’m just taking notes for the day I start working on my memoirs.

Let the fun begin…
